Mailing Lists
We currently host two mailing lists, our general list (approximately 1100 subscribers) & a Net/Open/FreeBSD driver issues/tweaks. Both are configured for members only mode, you must post from the same email account you subscribed as (user-filter@domain.tld addresses seem to work fine).

Mailman is our MLM choice, Matt is still lame enough to use sendmail and needs to upgrade to faster delivery MTA one-of-these-days (Qmail vs. Postfix!).

Netiquette
Standard geek MLM policies apply to all of our hosted lists, please follow the rules:.
  • Send email in plain-text, rich-text format & HTML is not welcomed here. We've diverse group, with a diverse set of MUA's (a quick grep reveals over 80 unique email clients); please configure your MUA appropriately.

  • Use clueful subjects "HELP ME!" isn't such an example.

  • Limit commercial advertising, Google does exist for a reason. A working URL and a paragraph or two is good enough for us.

  • Signatures should be limited to a maximum of 5 lines. Confidential agreements are especially big no-no's, nothing you post is private, it's automatically forwarded to all the other members & it permanently archived on the web.

  • Don't attach PGP keys, instead; include a URL. Same situation as "private email signatures", a mailing list is not private and doesn't need encryption. If someone wants to send you encrypted email, they can contact you privately for your key.
Props to BayLISA for these initial guidelines.
