Mission
With the understanding that wireless access can and has the potential to significantly reduce the cost and increase the ease to share resources and access to the Internet, the Bay Area Wireless Users Group was founded to promote wireless use for the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Mini FAQ
  • When
    Monthly meetings within the Bay Area (rotating between San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland). Events (including meetings) are posted on the mailing list.

  • How
    One general mailing list (+1k subscribers, most of which aren't "local"). No formal board of directors, dues, or warranty implied.

  • Who
    Our membership includes: networking professionals, amateur "HAM" radio operators, IEEE/IETF authors, computer geeks, etc.

  • Accomplishments
    Continuous monthly meetings since September 2000, see our history timeline. Maximum attendance rate 105 (October 2001).
  • Founders
    Matt Peterson founded the group after his first wireless adventure, PlayaNET (an internal network for the annual Burning Man event). Much assistance and support from Tim Pozar and Cliff Skolnick, both of which pack immense knowledge in the world of IP & RF. Additional clue c/o Dan Fitzpatrick & Steve Rubin (who also know more about IP & RF then Matt will ever learn).
